Sacramento Police Department
Captain Justin Eklund and Sargent Cory Faria informed the group that car break-ins in Midtown tend to spike in the winter months especially closer to the holidays. The hot spots continue to be from 21st to 27th Streets and J to Capitol Ave. They suggested keeping valuables out of sight, keep your cars locked and to use steering wheel clubs whenever possible, especially in older-model Honda and Toyota’s. As a promotional offer, SacPD is giving away clubs for any MNA members interested in securing their car if they park on the street. These will be available on a first-come- first-serve basis at each meeting, while supplies last. Additional deterrents the officers recommended: Do not warm up your car in the morning when it’s cold as this is an open invitation for theft; and when placing shopping bags, gifts and or purses in the trunk remember someone could be watching and waiting until you leave to reap the benefits. Watch and beware of your surroundings.

Der Biergarten
Sean Derfield, CEO of Der Biergarten, informed the association that he is interested in seeking permission to have two conditions removed or adjusted from his ABC license in order to hold four outside events per year. The cultural events would close by midnight and be held on the weekends. The two conditions he is requesting be removed include live entertainment, which is vital to provide cultural music while hosting events and a written guarantee the music will stop a half hour before the end of the event.
